1 Corinthians 15:17-18 "And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished." Here we understand if Christ did not rise again, then our faith is in vain. Why was the resurrection an essential element of the Gospel? Could not Jesus have still paid the price of death without the resurrection? Jesus Christ had to rise from the dead because His blood needed to be applied in order to obtain our redemption from sin.
Jesus Ascended to Heaven after the Resurrection. This is why the Resurrection is essential to the Gospel.
If Jesus had not Risen, He would not have applied the Blood. Remember the price for sin is death... if that were enough, then Jesus would have completed the payment upon the cross, but the resurrection is essential because: • The Resurrection proves that Christ is the Son of God. The fact that Jesus Christ died on the cross does not prove in itself He is God. Jesus proved His identity by fulfilling the prophecies of His death and by His return from the grave. The Bible declares that "And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:" (Romans 1:4). • The Resurrection proves that through Jesus we receive forgiveness of sin.
The Bible declares, "And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins." (1 Corinthians 15:17). By rising from the dead, Jesus proves His authority and power to break the bonds of sin and to assure forgiveness and eternal life to all who accept His gift of salvation. • The Resurrection reveals Jesus lives For ever. The Bible records, "Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God." (Romans 6:9-10). • The Resurrection secures our Heaven Citizenship. "And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:" (Ephesians 2:6). • The Resurrection defeated the last enemy. From the moment of his original rebellion until the day of the Cross, the devil fought viciously and cunningly to overthrow the kingdom of God. Satan must have thought he had dealt the final and decisive blow in this age-old war. But this was the devil's most serious miscalculation. And when Jesus Christ arose, the power of sin and death was forever shattered (1corn 15:26). Because of the Resurrection, those that do God's will need never fear Satan, Sin or Death again. Because Jesus Lives we Live!
